Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev won his maiden championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former coach Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has secured 21 victories at 21 different events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

The player's retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on court had led commentators to wonder if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and compete positively, reinforced by an better service.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, took control to force a decider.

The opponent defended four early-game chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
